Remedies to Strengthen Saturn in a Birth Chart

Saturn is a planet of airy nature, is the furthest away from the Sun who is also considered His father, and also is the slowest moving planet according to Vedic Astrology. Accordingly, the results or effects bestowed upon by Saturn on a native are usually delayed or slower. Saturn is considered as malefic of the malefics, is the regulator of Karma in general, and is also the natural lord of the 10th and the 11th houses in a horoscope.

To strengthen Saturn, the following remedies can be done. Please note that these remedies may or may not work for you. If you want to know whether Saturn is a benefic or a malefic planet for you, please hit the “Consult Now” button and we’ll get back to you.

  • Recite “Shri Hanuman Chalisa” thrice daily – this should be done after bath, prior to 9 AM in the morning. If this isn’t feasible to be done every day, then at least it should be recited once/thrice every Saturday

  • Worshipping Lord Shiva strengthens Saturn. You can read Shiva Chalisa or offer milk and bel leaves to a Shiva Lingam on every Monday and Saturday – this remedy is more effective for male natives but can be done by both males and females

  • Keep a fast on Saturdays; consume only water/juices/milk if you can’t keep a complete fast. Break the fast two hours after sunset and light a lamp of mustard oil under a banyan tree. If there’s no banyan tree near your house, then light the lamp and place it in the South-West or Western direction of your house

  • Consume only Sattvic food on Saturdays (food without onion/garlic/meat or eggs/ginger/mustard). Donate used clothes/shoes to beggars or needy. Donate to physically challenged people on Saturdays – as people who are underprivileged and incapacitated are represented by Saturn

  • Do not lie, cheat, or deceive anyone – especially on Saturdays. Shani Dev is the deity of law and justice and doesn’t tolerate injustice done to anyone

  • Take a bowl containing mustard oil – look at your shadow in the oil kept in the bowl and donate the oil to needy on Saturdays. If mustard oil is not available, you can donate black sesame seeds or black urad on Saturdays to a “Shani Dev” temple

  • Apply mustard oil or sesame oil on your hair before hair wash – can be done either daily or on Saturdays

  • Consume iron-rich foods or foods associated with Shani Dev – spinach, guava, apple, jamun, black chickpeas, black urad, black grapes, black salt, sesame seeds, watermelon, etc. You can also consume natural iron supplements (made of natural organic ingredients). Make sure not to consume artificial iron (medicinal tablets given in allopathy) as allopathic medicine represents Rahu and not Saturn

  • Plant a Peepal (Ficus religiosa, Sacred Fig) tree once in your lifetime. Ensure it is well-maintained, don’t discard it – have someone else maintain it, water it regularly if you’re not able to

  • Feed black-coloured dogs, buffaloes, black-coloured cows, crows etc. Don’t kill or trouble any black-coloured animals

  • Don’t keep your hair too short or too long – hair represents Shani. Despite the fashion needs of today, females should never cut their hair or males shouldn’t grow their hair/beard – this angers Shani Dev terribly

  • If you like music, listen to flute or you can play flute as well. Flute music represents Saturn and should be adopted in daily lives by Capricorn, Aquarius, Libra, Taurus ascendants

  • Maintain personal hygiene, don’t stay up late in the night, or stay asleep till late in the morning hours. Wake before sunrise. Don’t stay in a dark place (like a dark room) for long hours, ensure the western wall of your house isn’t broken or doesn’t have cracks/water seepage etc.; don’t procrastinate – as Saturn is a planet of timeliness, law and order and like his father Sun, he likes discipline and hygiene – both personal and environmental

  • Recite Shri Shani Chalisa every day – must be done at least thrice daily. Recite “Dashrath Shani Stotram” every Saturday. Stotram should be chanted ONLY by males and not by females. Shani Chalisa can be chanted by anyone – males or females

  • Keep your house, toilets, bathrooms clean and tidy; do not let wastewater collect anywhere in the house; try to keep off mosquitoes from the house. If you’re suffering from any insect bites, then Rahu/Mars remedies should be done separately as insects represent Rahu and injuries represent Mars’ troubles in a birth chart or transit

  • Donate/feed any fried items to sweepers/workers on Saturdays; be polite and humble to those who work below you – if you own a business or if you’re an employer

  • Wearing blue-coloured clothes on Saturdays helps strengthen Lord Shani – as blue represents Shani Dev. Donate blue or black coloured clothes, shoes, iron, etc. to needy people on Saturdays

  • Maintain a strict vegetarian diet for purity of mind and body and if you really want to appease Lord Shani. Meat is Tamas i.e. consuming meat causes the Tamasik elements of the human body to aggravate and if Saturn gets Tamasik energy, He is bound to give negative results

  • Don’t light an oil lamp during the daytime and don’t light a ghee lamp after sunset – oil represents Saturn and Ghee represents Jupiter, which are at strength in night and day respectively. Hence, one should always light a Ghee lamp during the day and an oil lamp after sunset

  • Maintain good relations with elderly people; always respect them, serve them, or help them monetarily; if they are not capable to walk or are sick, then help them with medicines, comforts, etc. Saturn represents elderly people

  • Keep a piece of silver with you (preferably square in size, 1 x 1 cm would be enough) in your wallet while you’re travelling or commuting

  • Assist blind people; help them in their daily chores. If there’s a hospital for blind nearby, help them monetarily or with medicines, etc.

  • Walk barefoot on grass, around the time of sunrise. This should not be done too late in the day or post sunset

  • Do not cut trees or destroy plants/wildlife. Do not waste water or any natural resources

  • Remove all the clutter from your house. Organize the house, bedroom, areas where you study or work. Do not keep clutter under your bed – especially items made of iron/metal. Your study table or workstation should be kept neat, tidy, and organized – all the time

  • Read “The Greatness of Saturn” or “Shri Shani Mahima”

  • Do not sleep with footwear near or around your bed at night. Footwear should be kept away from the bedroom/bed, preferably in the “South-West” direction of the house

  • Wear a horse-shoe ring made of iron on your middle finger of the right hand. This should be worn on a Saturday and should not be removed periodically. The ring should be worn by Capricorn, Aquarius, Libra, and Taurus ascendants ONLY during their Sade-Sati periods. Alternatively, you can hang a black horseshoe made of iron in the South-West wall of your home to remove any Vaastu defects

  • Listen (don’t recite) to “Dashratha Krit Shani Stotram” on Saturdays. This can be listened to by anyone – male or female. Similarly, you can also listen to “Shri Hanuman Chalisa” or “Sankatmochan Hanuman Ashtak” every day – as many times as possible

  • While eating/consuming food, always face the eastern direction. Remove footwear while consuming food. If possible, stay barefoot while you are at home. Floors are made of stone – represented by Rahu/Saturn, whereas the soles of our feet are also ruled by Saturn. Staying barefoot at home strengthens both Saturn as well as Mars (because walking is attributed to action – which is related to Mars)

  • Pay your employees on time if you own a business; especially when the employees concerned are workers and belong to the underprivileged sections of the society

  • Soak black sesame seeds in water overnight. Bathe with the water in the morning while chanting Shani Pira Hara mantra (given at the end of this report). Note that the Shani Stotram or Beeja Mantra should not be performed unless initiated by a Guru or a Mantrik

  • While bathing, chant “Maha Mrityunjaya” mantra or Shani stotram – can help greatly. Alternatively, you can chant the Gayatri mantra as well – this remedy should be done ONLY by males. Females should not recite any Vedic mantras or stotram, unless initiated by someone

  • Soak your feet in warm water containing “sea salt” – this can be done before sleep either daily or on Saturdays. This is a remedy for appeasing both Rahu as well as Saturn

  • Soak neem leaves in water overnight and use the water to bathe the next morning. This must be done every day

  • ONLY for males – Recite the following stotram at least 7 times daily (if not possible, then on Saturdays):

  • Shani Pira Har Mantra – can be chanted by anyone – male or female. Should be recited 19 times every day (or at least on Saturdays). Lord Shiva must be remembered first, followed by the mantra:
